Companion
What is a Companion?
Caring as a companion can involve many different activities and is ultimately dependant on the needs of the individual. Loneliness and mobility problems do not discriminate and can happen to anyone.
The key aim is to provide company for those experiencing loneliness, more often in an elderly person, but loneliness has no boundaries relating to age. People of any age can become isolated and all wellbeing needs are important. Social interaction is needed by almost everyone to allow them to feel valued and supported.
Companionship care
The duties of a companion can include such things as assisting with general household tasks, preparing meals, collecting shopping and running errands. They can also extend to assisting with the involvement of leisure activities, attending clubs or social groups and going on day trips.
A good companion will have an ability to relate to people from a variety of backgrounds. Patience, consideration and a sense of humour are also key skills.
Requirements to be a Companion
